Description & Care Guide:
The Black Ruby Barb is a striking freshwater species known for its deep red and black coloration. Males, in particular, exhibit vivid ruby-red hues with contrasting dark stripes along their body, making them an eye-catching addition to any tank. This active, hardy species is ideal for community aquariums, as it is peaceful but can become territorial with others of the same species, especially during breeding. Black Ruby Barbs are social fish and thrive in schools, so it's best to keep them in groups of at least six individuals. They are relatively easy to care for and adaptable to a range of water conditions.

Wild Habitats/Origins:
Native to the rivers and streams of Sri Lanka and India, the Black Ruby Barb thrives in slow-moving, well-vegetated waters with plenty of hiding spots. These habitats are typically characterized by dense plant growth and moderate currents, providing the fish with ample opportunities to forage for small invertebrates and organic material. In their natural environment, they are found in warm, oxygen-rich waters that replicate the conditions found in home aquariums.
Fun Fact:
The Black Ruby Barb’s vibrant coloration is most pronounced in males, particularly during breeding season, when they display their brightest red hues to attract females. Their striking appearance and energetic nature make them one of the most popular barbs in the aquarium hobby.
