The Celestial Pearl Danio, also known as the Galaxy Rasbora, is a stunning freshwater fish prized for its shimmering blue body adorned with pearl-like spots and bright orange fins. Native to small, densely vegetated ponds in Myanmar, this peaceful species is a favorite among aquarists for nano tanks and planted aquascapes. Despite its small size, its vibrant coloration and active schooling behavior make it a standout in any aquarium.

  • Size: 0.75-1 inch
  • Lifespan: 3-5 years
  • Temperament: Peaceful, shy
  • Group/Solitary: Best kept in groups of 6+
  • Food: Omnivorous, high-quality micro-pellets, live/frozen foods (daphnia, brine shrimp)
  • Water Requirements: 71-78°F, pH 6.5-7.5, soft to moderately hard water

In the wild, Celestial Pearl Danios are found in shallow, vegetated ponds and slow-moving streams surrounded by grasses and dense plants. They prefer tanks with similar conditions, featuring plenty of plants for cover, such as Java Moss, Dwarf Sagittaria, or Anubias. Their shy nature makes them more confident in groups of six or more, where males will often display their vibrant colors to compete for attention. A soft, sandy substrate and subdued lighting help replicate their natural habitat and reduce stress.

These fish thrive on a varied diet of high-quality micro-pellets and occasional live or frozen foods to maintain their health and coloration. Regular water changes and stable parameters are essential, as they are sensitive to poor water quality.

Interesting Fact: Celestial Pearl Danios were discovered only recently in 2006, quickly becoming a sensation in the aquarium hobby due to their unique, galaxy-like appearance. Their popularity has led to significant captive breeding efforts, reducing the need for wild-caught specimens and helping to conserve their natural habitats.
