Its active nature and stunning appearance make it an attractive addition to planted community aquariums.

Cherry Veiltail Barbs are schooling fish that need to be kept in groups of at least six to display their best colors and reduce any potential stress. They are highly active and enjoy open swimming space, so a tank with plenty of horizontal room is recommended. These fish are generally peaceful but can occasionally nip the fins of slower-moving or long-finned species, so choose tankmates accordingly. They are omnivores and thrive on a balanced diet of high-quality flake food, along with live or frozen foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp to encourage their vivid coloration. As relatively hardy fish, they can adapt to a wide range of water conditions but prefer clean, well-filtered water with regular water changes to stay healthy.

In the wild, Cherry Barbs are found in slow-moving waters and densely planted areas throughout rivers and lakes in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. They appreciate the cover of plants and natural hiding spaces, making them a great species for aquascaped tanks. Their bright coloration becomes more intense when they feel secure, especially in a planted environment with moderate lighting.

Fun Fact: Male Cherry Veiltail Barbs develop a brilliant red hue during breeding season, making them particularly eye-catching when they are ready to spawn.
