Mystery Snails are popular freshwater snails known for their intriguing behaviors, large size, and colorful shells, which range from ivory and gold to blue and purple. These peaceful snails are native to South America, where they inhabit slow-moving rivers and ponds. They make excellent additions to aquariums, helping to control algae while adding visual interest.

- Group/Solitary: Can be kept singly or in groups
- Food: Omnivorous, algae wafers, fresh vegetables (zucchini, cucumber), fish food pellets
- Water Requirements: 68-84°F, pH 7.0-8.4, moderately hard to hard water

Mystery Snails are highly adaptable and easy to care for, making them suitable for most freshwater tanks. They require a tank with a secure lid, as they may venture to the surface and potentially escape. These snails are excellent algae eaters but should be supplemented with sinking pellets, algae wafers, and fresh vegetables to ensure balanced nutrition. Mystery Snails are generally peaceful, making them compatible with a wide range of tankmates, though they should be protected from aggressive fish that might nip at their soft bodies or antennae. Maintaining high water quality and calcium levels is essential for their shell health, as they require harder water to develop strong, healthy shells.

In the wild, Mystery Snails inhabit slow-moving bodies of water where they feed on detritus and algae. In aquariums, they are active during the day and night, often seen climbing tank walls or exploring the substrate. They breathe through both gills and a siphon, allowing them to survive in low-oxygen environments by occasionally coming to the water’s surface to breathe.

Fun Fact: Mystery Snails lay eggs above the waterline in a characteristic cluster that looks like a pile of small pink or peach-colored pearls. These eggs will hatch if kept moist and undisturbed, adding to the population if tank conditions are favorable.
