Description & Care Guide:
The Thick-Lipped Sunset Gourami is a stunning freshwater species known for its unique coloration, which ranges from golden yellow to orange, with a hint of red. Its name comes from the prominent, thick lips that give the fish a distinctive appearance. This peaceful and relatively hardy species is ideal for smaller to medium-sized aquariums. Known for their tranquil temperament, they are perfect for community tanks. However, they are best kept with non-aggressive species as they can sometimes become territorial, especially during breeding. The Thick-Lipped Sunset Gourami is easy to care for, making it suitable for beginner aquarists.

Wild Habitats/Origins:
Native to the slow-moving rivers, ponds, and swamps of Southeast Asia, particularly in regions of Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia, the Thick-Lipped Sunset Gourami inhabits warm, shallow waters. These environments are often densely vegetated, offering plenty of hiding spots and grazing opportunities. The species is accustomed to slow-moving water with stable conditions, which is why it thrives in aquariums that replicate such environments.

Fun Fact:
The Thick-Lipped Sunset Gourami’s vibrant coloration intensifies during the breeding season, when males become more vivid in their orange and red hues to attract females. Their unique thick lips also serve as a charming characteristic, giving them a distinct and memorable appearance in aquariums.
